Trekkers usually travel to Delhi by Air, then take train to
Kathgodam and a taxi from Kathgodam to Munsiyari.
There are also Volvo buses to Kathgodam from Delhi, starting
Anand Vihar Delhi.
Milam Glacier Trek
The Milam glacier trek is a good starter trek for the
Milam region. It is a moderate level trek. The trek route
usually opens in May and closes by mid June at the arrival of
monsoons. The trek then reopens in mid August. You get
magnificient views of snow covered peaks on this trek.
The Milam Glacier is the biggest glacier in the Kumaon Himalayas. The nearest village to the glacier is the Milam village which is located on the old trade route to tibet.
From Munsiyari the trek to Lilam is mostly downhill along the Giri Ganga river. Bogdyar to Rilkot is a dense forest trail, after which the trail opens into the Gori Ganga Valley. After crossing the Gori Ganga river one starts to get mesmerising views of Nanda Devi and Hardeol peaks. The peaks continue to be visible right till Milam Glacier.
